International House Levels

There are 6 basic levels in our level system. They range from the Starter level up to the professional level. See the description of the levels below.

International House Level ALTE Level (Council of Europe) Number of Semesters * (Option А) Number of Semesters * (Option B) Description
Starter A1 1 N/A Students at this level have just begun to study English. Their ability to communicate is limited to the most basic structures and vocabulary of simple situations.
1. Elementary A2 3 4 Students at this level can communicate at a basic level and can deal with situations necessary to survive in an English-speaking environment e.g. travel, accommodation, shopping, socialising. Their comprehension of English is limited but a foundation has been laid for further learning.
2. Pre-Intermediate B1 3 4 Students at this level are still in the early stages of learning English, but are able to communicate adequately in simple everyday situations. Their range of vocabulary and ability to manipulate grammatical structure is developing, as is their ability to comprehend oral and written English.
3. Intermediate B1 3 4 Although still developing their vocabulary and grammar, students at this level are able to communicate their ideas in most basic everyday situations. They are beginning to deal effectively with authentic listening and reading material and, while their language is not always accurate, their ability to express more complex ideas is beginning to develop.
4. Upper Intermediate B2 3 4 Students at this level are able to express themselves quite fluently, although not always accurately, with a wide range of vocabulary and a command of all basic grammatical structures. They can use English in a variety of contexts and, sensitive to many of the complexities of the language, are able to actively incorporate them into their speech and written expression. From this level students can start preparing for the Cambridge FCE exam — First Certificate in English.
5. Advanced C1 3 4 Students at this level are developing an understanding of and an ability to produce the subtleties and complexities of the language, although they may still require some work on accuracy. At the end of this course, students should be close to native speaker competence. Students of this level may do a Cambridge САЕ preparation course — Certificate of Advanced English.

Language Teaching Methodology

We use the most up-to-date communicative methodology, i.e. the teaching process is run exclusively in English. This teaching method has been successfully applied for a long time by leading language schools in the world. It has proved to have outstanding efficiency among all teaching methods. The number of students in groups do not exceed 12 persons, which helps to create favourable atmosphere for communication.

Teachers

Our teaching staff consists of professional Ukrainian and foreign teachers with international experience of teaching. All teachers are constantly advancing their proficiency by travelling within the network of International House language schools and sharing their international experience of teaching. Most IH teachers are also teacher trainers and authors of well-known books.
Such well-known textbooks as «HEADWAY» and «CUTTING EDGE» are also written by teachers of International House.

Resource Centre

At International House Resource Centres (in both KPI and Obolon branches) students study in comfortable, well-equipped and air-conditioned classrooms. The IH Resource Centre is available in the head school. There you can use a computer with internet access and additional multimedia materials and exercises developed by IHWO. You can also borrow books, videocassettes and DVDs in English.
