International exams in English for speakers of other languages created by Cambridge University are the most popular English language exams for foreigners. Cambridge certificates that can be obtained are acknowledged by the significant number of international universities, companies and educational institutions as an affirmation of the internationally recognized standard of knowledge of English.

IELTS — is an exam for people who plan to work or study in English speaking countries. It is accepted by the educational institutions of Australia, Great Britain and New Zealand. Also, the certificate is becoming more and more widely acknowledged in Canada and the USA. The result of this test is valid for 2 years.

IELTS consists of four parts — listening, reading, writing and speaking. There are two types of IELTS: general and academic. Each type is assessed on a scale of 1-9 (from Starter to Proficiency).

The IELTS course commences as soon as the enrolment is complete. The quantity of students in a group is recommended as 7-12 people. The length of a course is 1 or 2 semesters, for 6 weeks or 12 weeks respectively. For those who need more preparation we run a 3-time-a-week course on Monday-Wednesday-Friday from 19.00 — 21.00. For those who are free only at weekends we offer a once-a-week course on Saturday from 10.00 —14.00.

Cambridge exam scale can be divided into the following levels:

• KET – Key English Test
• PET – Preliminary English Test
• FCE – First Certificate in English
• CAE – Certificate in Advanced English
• CPE – Certificate of Proficiency in English

The most popular Cambridge exams in general English are FCE, CAE and CPE. KET and PET are exams exclusively for children. The certificate obtained after the successful passing of these exams does not have a time limit to its validity. These exams are comprised of five papers: Reading, Speaking, Writing, Listening and Use of English sections. Cambridge exams are held three times a year in March, June and December at British Council in Kyiv.

FCE — First Certificate in English

This exam corresponds to the Upper-Intermediate/Pre-Advanced level of English. If your English is strong enough to be used in a variety of everyday conversations or in the business and educational spheres you should choose this exam to be taken.
To pass the exam you need to have a varied vocabulary and effective skills in conversational speech. Also, you should be able to use different styles of conversation in different situations. What is more, you should be able to show the ability to contrast formal and informal styles and to be able to express politeness.

FCE is being taken by more than 270 000 people in more than 100 countries of the world. FCE is a perfect exam to take if you are interested in getting a university education or a job abroad which demands good language skills (e.g. business, medicine, and engineering).

CAE — Certificate in Advanced English

This exam is for those people who have a high level of English. In order to gain CAE you should be competent at dealing with difficult language constructions in a variety of situations. This certificate is recognized by employers and educational institutions all over the world.

CPE — Certificate of Proficiency in English

This exam is for those students whose level of English is extremely high. This certificate confirms the ability of its owner to operate freely with difficult English constructions almost as a native speaker does. CPE is acknowledged in many educational, scientific and trade institutions of the world.
