It’s been almost a year since my colleagues and I started to learn Russian. The experience is very positive although as mature and working students we have some problem with the Russian language. Excellent cooperation with our teacher and no problem with the IH school management.

International House’s Russian department have excellent teachers that have been instrumental in making me feel confident with my Russian both at work and in my social life within just over a year.

Their teachers are flexible, adapting lessons to my needs — sometimes at short notice. The lessons themselves are a comfortable mix between conversation and grammar work, which allow me to test and learn new vocabularly, increase my confidence, while never losing sight of important grammatical rules.

I have chosen a 1×1 Russian course at “International House, Kiev” to learn Russian without any previous knowledge of the language. Beginning with the first lesson, Russian was the main language used during the lessons and that leads to a quick improvement of my language skills. My teacher is well trained and good prepared for each lesson, thus she adjusts them to my strengths and weaknesses. I can strongly recommend the “International House, Kiev” for people who need a flexible schedule and want to achieve a fast and enjoyable improvement of Russian language knowledge.

I recieved one on one instruction over the course of 3 weeks in Kiev. The teachers were very helpful and adapted the course to cover material that I did not know or concepts that I still had difficulties with. An emphasis was placed on correct grammar which I prefered. Vocabular is a never ending battle and I feel it is far more useful for an individual to focus on words that they are going to be using. That being said I never lacked for words to study everyday. I was given homework almost everyday to help practice what was covered during class but it left me with plenty of free time to study vocab and time to explore Kiev.

I have not used my Russian with any regularity over the last 5 years and so I was rusty in numerous areas. The individual instruction was especially effective because I was not in a class with individuals with different needs. There was no time wasted because as soon as the instructor felt I was competent on a subject we moved on. I feel that I have made vast improvements over my abilities from when I first arrived. The only down side is that I have once again been reminded of how much there is left for me to learn.

J’ai beaucoup apprécié, lors de mon séjour à Kiev en août 2010, la proposition pédagogique de soutien en langue russe d’International House.
Outre la qualité de l’accueil et l‘écoute manifestée pour cerner mes objectifs, je soulignerai la compétence, le sérieux et la disponibilité de mon enseignant.
Le contenu des cours individuels était varié avec une alternance de conversations, de points sur les difficultés grammaticales et d’acquisition de vocabulaire. Il était adapté à mon niveau pour me permettre de pratiquer avec efficacité et plaisir.
Celui-ci se situait à deux années d’apprentissage à Paris, à concurrence de deux heures de cours collectifs par semaine: les cours à Kiev, uniquement en langue russe, m’ont permis de prendre confiance et d’engager des échanges pratiques en ville, après une semaine de cours.
Je recommande sans réserve de recourir au soutien d’International House pour faciliter échanges et contacts et renforcer les progrès liés à l’immersion linguistique.

Russian is a really difficult language, and I think the election of the teacher and the method is really important.
International House was the best choice, and the quality of the lessons and the enthusiasm of the teachers encouraged me to continue improving my knowledge, to the point of passing an official exam from the Pushkin Institute.

El ruso es un idioma realmente difícil, y creo que la elección del profesor y del método es crucial.
International House resultó ser la mejor opción, y la calidad de las clases y el entusiasmo de las profesoras me animó a seguir mejorando mis conocimientos del idioma, hasta el punto de presentarme a un examen y obtener un diploma oficial del Instituto Pushkin certificando mi nivel.
